Matt Kernicky

Hi there. I’m Matt Kernicky and I’m grateful for the opportunity to help people just like you. Like many therapists, I believe in creating a safe, nonjudgmental space. For me, these aren’t just buzzwords; they are core principles I work hard to ensure in our sessions. I also believe therapy is a very human space. I know that it may take a while to trust me which might lead you to be less than honest about how tough your week really was. Sometimes there’s that justifiable fear that things might get messy in session, sometimes unexpectedly. But therapy can also be a human space where you can learn to trust, understand yourself in a new way, and work toward the person you’d like to be. Helping you become your best self is what I strive for in every session.

While I work with a wide variety of clients from pre-teen through adult with a broad range of concerns, I have a particular interest in men’s issues. From trying to balance being a provider/father/husband to struggling to meet the expectations of everyone around you to being fed up with the so-called rules that men are “supposed” to live by, I’m here to work with you to become the man you want to be.

I believe that your feelings (or absence of feelings), behaviors, values, and wants should drive the therapy process – not mine. This is why my primary mode of working, Solution Focused Therapy, is all about accessing and nurturing those parts of you to get you where you want to be. I sometimes incorporate skills from DBT and mindfulness practices to better regulate intense emotions and provide grounding when needed.

I earned my master’s degree from Kutztown University in 2023 and began working with clients with serious mental illnesses in a community setting. I transitioned to private practice in January 2025. I have an associate professional counseling license and am actively working toward full licensure.

In my spare time, I enjoy learning new things (I am a super curious person), petting furry creatures, playing nerdy games with funny dice, and hanging out with my family.
